The afternoon light is finally hitting my living room. Around 2 PM the sun finally peeks around a nearby apartment and casts a golden pillar onto my living room carpet. The spot is then occupied by my dog Gemma who’ll bake in the warm stretch until the spot is dim again, an hour later. These are the types of days where I dream of shrinking down and joining in her afternoon snooze.
So this time, I’m going to give you a break from a longer issue. I’m writing about burnout and need time to put it together. In the meantime, have a few links that I’ve been enjoying. And one more thing, you’ll notice that at the top of this newsletter, there is a listen option. From now on, issues will all be read by me. So if you don’t like reading, I got you.
Links, Laugh, Love
Bownds Ranches
I don’t think brokerages are allowed to look this good. I won’t be able to afford a home anytime soon but this site will make you wish you had a porch to watch the Texas monsoons roll through your land. The site was designed by NightJar, a studio worthy of your attention.
Silencio Visual Languages
Silencio is a digital studio specializing in interactive visual languages. I’m not sure what that means but it doesn’t matter. Scrolling through the page tells enough of a story to make you want more.
Art Directed
Everyone needs mockups that make their work (beautiful or not) look professional. Sure you could go out and stage your own phone, but compositing the screenshots with realistic shadows and shading is probably a skill you don’t have in your repertoire.
Studio Goodside
What if you took a brand designer and copywriter/strategist and put them in a studio? You’d probably get Goodside, a brand-new studio run by Jessica Strelioff and Danielle LaRoy.
Curious Co
I remember when the internet was full of Flash sites that wanted you to play with them more than they wanted you to inform you. This feels like a call back to those types of sites. I’ll let you discover its funhouse of tricks.
Shoutouts
Victor Soussan - Thank you Victor for subscribing for a year! I used your subscription to buy a windscreen for my microphone so that I can record the audio that you’re probably listening to right now.
Colleen Brady - Thank you for supporting me in pretty much everything that I do. I’m fairly certain you have the strongest push press on earth given that the entire Webflow community seems to rest on your shoulders.
Chaitanya Mendu - Thank you for subscribing monthly! You know I did work for OnDeck once through another agency. I don’t know if it ever got pushed live but it feels like we have something in common now.
